A battle of words has ensued between Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) and the grouping called Joint Civil Society Platform on Good Governance. The two are earmarked to hold demonstrations on Tuesday in Lilongwe.
HRDC announced last week that it will hold Pro-Martha Chizuma demonstrations on Tuesday, and the other grouping has also announced its anti-government demos on the same day.
Speaking to Malawi Metro News, Philip Kamangira, spokesperson for Joint Civil Society Platform on Good Governance said they will only let HRDC postpone its demos so that they can hold theirs on the day.
He said their demos are against the Tonse Alliance’s failed promises such as failure to create 1 million jobs in one year and others.
Kamangira has since called HRDC’s demos as sabotage against their anti government demos.
But, Luke Tembo HRDC National Coordinator has told Malawi Metro News that their demos notice came first and that they therefore expect the joint grouping to postpone their planned demonstration.
Tembo said HRDC is not moving their demos to any date saying they believe, the other team has come to destruct their demos too.
At the moment, both sides have claimed they got the nod from the Lilongwe City Council earlier than the other.
