A 24- year old woman identified as Christina Masina will spent the next eight years in prison for sexual activities with minors.
She was sentenced by the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 while her actions happened in June last year at Chigwirizano location in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Station Prosecution officer Richard Kandeya told the court that the accused person, Christina Masina, was a neighbor to the complainant (name withheld) who happens to be the guardian to the two victims aged 4 and 6 and both the accused and the complainant were sex workers.
When going out for their nocturnal duties, the two boys (victims) were spending their night in the convict’s house as part of security however, on 27th June, 2021 straight from her outing while drunk at around 04:00 hours, Christina, awakened the two young boys and started forcing them to have sexual activities with her, one after the other.
In mitigation, she asked the court for leniency saying she was a first offender and that she has children who look up to her for parental care as she blamed intoxication for her conduct.
However, the state pleased for a stiff punishment as the victims have gone and still going through a traumatic time that may affect their education and social life
Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana said the offence was serious in nature and that it attracts a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment.
Msekandiana therefore slapped Masina with eight years imprisonment with hard labour to deter other would be offenders.
The convict hails from Mlangeni Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Njolomole in Ntcheu district.
