The Senior Resident Magistrate Court sitting at Kasungu on May 10, 2021 convicted and sentenced Madalitso Nkhoma, 45 to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 12 year – old standard 3 step daughter at Mngwala village.
The court through Police prosecutor, Sub Inspector James Ngupasya Muyila, heard that, on October 23, 2020 the convict called his step daughter to his house.
As the victim entered the house, Nkhoma closed the door.
Muyila further, told the court that, Madalitso Nkhoma took the victim to his room where he defiled her.
The court also learnt from Muyila that all these ordeals took place while the convict’s wife was at the market selling Mandasi.
The case first entered court for trial on January 1, 2021 but the convict denied the charge.
This prompted the state to parade two witnesses who testified against the convict.
The case was adjourned to April 30, 2021 for judgement. On April 30, Senior Resident Magistrate Biaar Kamanga found the accused guilty.
In his mitigation, Nkhoma pleaded with the court to be lenient saying he has a lot of dependants.
