There are no cracks in Tonse Alliance. Presidential Press Secretary, Brian Banda said this in Blantyre on Monday, trashing social media reports that there are serious cracks in the alliance.
Banda said contrary to the reports, the Tonse Alliance is as solid and intact as it has ever been.
Over the past weeks, social media has been awash with claims that all is not well in the Tonse Alliance, with some suggesting the alliance was only in name but practically it is fast disintegrating and is on the verge of collapsing.
The assertions have been dismissed as unfounded and therefore, fake news.
At the Weekly Brief session at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre, Banda reassured the nation that all is well within the alliance and that those who are addicted to such fake news are set for disappointment.
“Everything is okay in the Tonse Government.
What the Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima, was saying when he was in the Northern Region is just an appeal to the followers of the different parties forming the Government to make sure that they work together.
“If you can see, there is not any problem in as far as the leaders of Government are concerned. President Chakwera is always preaching on the same.
Speaking in Parliament, he said that those that are wishing Tonse Government to collapse should just forget it because it’s not going to collapse,” said Banda.
During the briefing, Banda also clarified on the request by Professor Patrick Lumumba that President Chakwera should be one of the key leaders in propelling Pan-Africanism as advanced by the late president of Tanzania, Dr John Pombe Magufuli.
Banda said this signifies the confidence people have in the leadership of Dr Chakwera.
But Banda said the Malawi leader is currently directing his energies to ensure his administration delivers on its promises as highlighted in one of the Super High Five agenda, ‘Prospering Together.
The Tonse Alliance is a grouping of nine political parties formed in the run-up to the June 23 fresh presidential poll.
They are Malawi Congress Party, UTM, PP, AFORD, MAFUNDE, Umodzi Party, PETRA, Freedom Party and PPM.
