Lilongwe City Council (LCC) said it is overwhelmed with requests for burial services from loved ones of deceased at its area 18 cemetery in Lilongwe.
In a statement released today, signed by the LCC Chief Executive Officer, John Chome, which FCM TV online has seen said the escalation of the burrial services is threatening to congest the cemetery.
Reads part of the statement: “The Lilongwe City Council has noted the escalation of requests for burial services at its area 18 cemetery which is threatening to overwhelm our capacity. The council notes that funerals are having to wait for sometime before assisted.”
Chome has however said that the council is currently working on augmenting the current manual practicea with mechanized equipment to speed up the burial processes.
He also said that the council is also putting in place management measures to avoid the congestion.
The decry in the burial services at the area 18 cemetery comes as COVID-19 deaths continue to be registered in the country and many people are burrying their loved ones at the cemetery.
