Minister of Health Honourable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has appealed to Media Managers to get deeper understanding
of the Health funding modalities of Global Fund and Global
Alliance on Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI) which supports
the Ministry’s interventions against HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria and Covid-19.
The Minister said a good understanding of the two funds will
help Media houses to accurately report on the successes the
Country is making in combating the diseases and to follow up on the utilisation of funds.
The Minister made the remark on Thursdays when she opened
and participated in a two day interface meeting between the
Ministry of Health, News Editors and Reporters at Sigelege
Beach Resort in Salima.
The interface is aimed at bringing awareness on Global Fund
and GAVI grants which the Ministry of Health receives from
development partners.
“Some notable achievements include the incinerators installed at QUECH and KCH, 10 million mosquito nets distributed
nation wide and 98% of antiretroviral therapy (ART)
commodities are procured with financial support from the Global Fund with over 852,000 clients being on ART to date,’
said Chiponda.
Hon Chiponda also said the Global Fund has been a faithful
partner to Malawi in the fight against HIV, Tuberculosis and
Malaria since 2003.
She further said Malawi has accessed and utilized financial
support from Global Fund worth US$1.6 billion to date.
The Minister added that the country has made great strides in
the fight against the three diseases as evidenced by attainment of several national and global targets.
