18-year-old man in Lilongwe has been stabbed to death while defending his mother from being assaulted during a fight.
The deceased is identified as Tashan Mazoni from Nsana Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in the district.
The incident occured on Saturday night (5th September) at Zamkutu in Buluzi Village in the same area.
It is said that the deceased stepfather, Langson Mazoni, and the deceased mother went to the nearby village to visit a friend. Later, an in-law to Langson Mazoni, Grace Banda, followed the couple into the village. Immediately the suspect, Chikalipo Chagwa, went after the three and claimed that Grace Banda was his ex-wife.
Chagwa accused his purported ex-wife of engaging in love affair with other men. The two argued until they started fighting some 50 metres away, prompting Langson Mazoni and his wife, Loveness, to intervene.
Chagwa is said to have assaulted both his so-called ex-wife and Loveness. Then Tashan ( the deceased) came and grabbed the suspect (Chagwa) to stop him from further attack. Chagwa produced a knife and stabbed Tashan in the abdomen. He was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In apparent revenge, deceased relatives assaulted the suspect, leaving him injured. He was also taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment.
The deceased relatives went on to demolish 7 houses that belonged to the suspect’s relations at Kandiuze Village in Traditional Authority Kalumba. Some property was damaged and stolen during the fracas.
Meanwhile, Tashan’s body is still at the mortuary pending post-mortem.
